Labuschagne Left Out from Australian One-Day International Squad to Face India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from Australia's three-game ODI series against India, with in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw earning a unexpected call-up.

Performance Issues Result in Exclusion

The right-hander was left out from the ODI squad following being dismissed for one in both of his innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a highest score of forty-seven in his most recent ten ODI batting appearances.

Labuschagne has featured in 68 one-day internationals and accumulated 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64, but will now focus on earning a return to the Test side ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Team Changes

There have been indications of a resurgence with a score of 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw scored a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his white-ball international debut in the forthcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Tests with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also aiming for a return to the Test team as Australia seek a answer to their batting top-order problems.

Pace Returns and Fitness Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after being rested since excelling for Australia in the 3-0 Test series sweep of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen may earn his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the build-up to Australia’s last 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he works to regain fitness from a back injury in time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Schedule

Australia have named a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-match series due to a wrist problem sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 teams after smashing a century in the final game against New Zealand to seal a series clean sweep last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20s from 29 October.
