Waymo's Autonomous Vehicles Coming Soon London Streets Next Year.
The US-based enterprise Waymo has revealed that its driverless cabs will be operational for use on London's streets starting next year.
UK Capital Named as First European City for Autonomous Ride-Hailing.
The UK capital will emerge as the first European city to host an autonomous taxi service, akin to those currently operational in San Francisco and four other American locations using Waymo's advanced technology.
First Operations to Begin with Human Specialists.
Waymo announced that its vehicles are now en route to London and will commence operating on the capital's streets in the near future with experienced operators supervising the vehicles.
The company – initially created as a spin-off from Google's self-driving car initiative and belonging to the larger corporate umbrella – stated it would expand activities and collaborate with the UK transport authorities and London's transport agency to obtain the essential permissions to provide completely driverless rides by 2026.

Further companies, including Uber and the UK-based technology firm Wayve, have additionally revealed their own strategies to trial driverless vehicles in the capital next year.
This is in response to the UK authorities confirming it would speed up regulations permitting public testing to proceed before legislation supporting self-driving vehicles passes in full.

A fuller deployment of driverless vehicles is projected in the UK after the Automated Vehicles Act comes completely into force in the latter part of 2027.

Waymo currently has links to the UK after launching its first European research base in Oxford in 2019.
It is also launching services in Tokyo using Jaguar Land Rover eco-friendly cars, marking its sole additional present project outside the United States.
